Thank you all for a wonderful term of great achievements at Carey. We have been pleased to see the way our students have been applying themselves to their learning across the board range of programs on offer here at Carey. This week we have been celebrating the arts with the Middle School production of 'The Little Mermaid', a thoroughly uplifting performance by all involved. We have been delighted also to see our sporting program going form strength to strength with a very successful start to the winter season.

In addition, New Metrics for Success, the research-practice partnership with the University of Melbourne that led to the development of our Complex Competencies,
has been awarded the Australian Council for Educational Leaders 2025 Leadership Award. This prestigious award recognises the bold, collaborative leadership that sits at the heart of New Metrics: schools and researchers working side by side to reshape how learning is assessed, recognised and valued. It affirms the extraordinary contribution of our educators, who have helped design and drive a future-focussed vision of schooling – grounded in shared principles and responsive to the needs of modern learners.

Parent survey and discussion groups
I would like to thank the more than 650 parents who participated in our recent survey, helping us understand what is important to our parents and where they feel our resources should be directed.
The thoughtful feedback from parents has provided invaluable insights into what matters most to our community and how we can continue to grow as a leading, financially sustainable school. We also thank the many parents who attended the subsequent discussion groups.
I am pleased to share a report summarising the key themes and findings from the survey, reflecting our parents’ priorities, concerns and aspirations for Carey’s future.

Historical abuse
In what has been a challenging period for all in our school community, and with a commitment to transparency and change, I wish to update you on our ongoing response to historical abuse claims.
I have continued to meet with and listen to members of our community who have chosen to share their experiences with me. Carey is deeply committed to supporting those affected and engaging with them in a compassionate way.
Over the coming months, the School is responding to matters that may or may not appear in the media. We are mindful of respecting the privacy of those who have come forward and cannot comment on any individual case. However, I want to assure each member of our community of the School’s unwavering commitment to supporting those affected and prioritising their wellbeing.
