With the winter months upon us, there has never been a more important time to remind ourselves of the importance of being physically active. It has been wonderful to witness the engagement of students in the wide variety of winter sport and activity offerings – 10 in total. There have been those students who fully immerse themselves in the competitive team sports and those who find a passion for the lifestyle activity options, such as Fitness Club and Yoga. All are just as important to encourage students to lead a physically active lifestyle.
A recent report by the Australian Sports Commission highlighted a picture of how Australians get active and engage in sport and physical activity. In some interesting findings, half of Australians aged 15+ (50%) participate in sport-related activity, most often mixing it with activities that are non-sport related e.g. going for a run, cycle or swim. I am pleased to say that most students that attend Carey would be in that 50% that participate in organised sport related activity, combined with activities that are not sport related. The APS winter season so far
As we approach the Term 2 holidays, there has been several APS and APS/AGSV winter sport season highlights to date:
APS/AGSV Gala Round for Girls First Teams on Thursday 24 April to start the season. All girls’ teams played at central venues in their sports under lights – a great advertisement and celebration for girls’ sport!
Reconciliation Round on Saturday 31 May, where leaders from all year levels and teams read an Acknowledgement of Country prior to games. Reconciliation jerseys and t-shirts were also worn by several APS and AGSV schools to recognise and celebrate the occasion.
The first two wins in the last three seasons for our Boys First Hockey Team.
Some strong results at the First level:
