Girls Footy – We love it!

Over 70 girls were involved in Carey Girls Football this year – including many experienced players, and some girls who were trying the sport for the very first time. All agreed that it was a fantastic sporting experience, and the chants, laughter, fun and devastating playreflected this!

Kansai University visit

This is the 15th year that third year students from Kansai University, in Osaka Japan, have visited Junior School Kew. Under the leadership of Professor Haruo Kurokami, Department of Infomatics, the Kansai students come to Carey to observe how to implement thinking routines into classroom programs, compare and contrast the Japanese education system with Carey practices, and present a science lesson related to our Junior School science curriculum.

Lemonade Stand Program

In an exponentially changing world, students must maintain pace and relevance. They must make mistakes, pivot, and then try again. They must be encouraged to develop and build on their enterprise skills and Carey’s 10 Attributes of a Positive Learner, as these will enable them to become wise independent learners.

Donvale makes their mark at Ruffey Lake Park

In a project commissioned by the City of Manningham, students across all year levels at Junior School Donvale were recently involved in creating a permanent art installation at Ruffey Lake Park in Doncaster East.

The Carey Celebrates Literature Festival was launched in style on Tuesday night with a presentation from Academy Award winning animator Leo Baker.

Anzac Day Lunch

Last week, each of our school sections paused to reflect on the sacrifices of those who have gone before us, including the 40 Old Carey Grammarians who lost their lives in World War II.

Who wears the pants at Carey?

Carey students generally like their school uniform. They tell us that the colours are nice and that they are proud to represent their School in the Carey blue, black and yellow. Late in 2015, a group of interested students began meeting to plan this year’s International Women’s Day Breakfast. Students and staff from Middle and Senior School who were interested in gender issues and gender equity were invited to discuss their opinions and experiences inside and outside the Carey gates. A range of students from across the School gathered to share some deep conversations and to learn from each other.

Year 6 Canberra Visit

In the last week of October, the Year 6 students from our Kew Junior School headed to Canberra for an exciting educational tour of our nation’s capital. Over the course of the week, the students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
