Once again, students from our Class of 2023 have been recognised for their exceptional talents in the arts. The VCE Season of Excellence celebrates outstanding student work across design, technology and the performing and visual arts, and is hosted by the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA).

This year, we are incredibly proud of the three students from the Class of 2023 whose hard work throughout Year 12 has been recognised in this prestigious festival.

Amelie Nguyen and Tilly Jones’s works are two of just 16 student designs from the Product Design and Technology subject across Victoria that will be showcased in this year’s Top Designs exhibition. Over 1000 designs were entered for consideration by VCAA’s expert panel.

Amelie’s work is the light pictured below, which is specifically designed to reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality for teenagers. Tilly made a versatile games table with sustainable materials and multiple functions.

Congratulations to both Amelie and Tilly. An honourable mention also goes to Abby Thomas, whose handbag design with personal safety features was shortlisted for the exhibition.

Carey is proud to so regularly have Product Design and Technology student work displayed at Top Designs exhibitions. It is testament to the hard work of our creative students and impressive Product Design and Technology educators – congratulations to Felicity McNamara, who has been teaching the program and mentoring young designers with such success for many years.

Top Designs runs from Saturday 23 March to Sunday 14 July at the Melbourne Museum.

Sally (Jiaqi) Sun is one of only 51 students selected to perform at this year’s Top Class Music after a thorough assessment by an expert panel. According to VCAA, ‘Selected performers exemplify the skill and creativity that can be achieved within the VCE curriculum.’

Sally will be performing her assessment piece Toccatta by Francis Poulenc on piano during the first Top Class Music session on Wednesday 20 March at 10am.

Congratulations Sally, we hope you continue performing beyond school!

Top Class Music performances will be shown on Wednesday 20 March at 10am and 2pm and Thursday 21 March, 1.30pm at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

The Carey Class of 2023 achieved exceptional academic results across the whole program. Read more about our highest achievers.
