CareyConnect: Imagination is the key to innovation

During these months living with COVID regulations, there has been a demand to be inventive to retain a sense of connectedness with each other. Each of our Carey Positive Learner Attributes encourages us to extend our thinking, relationships and self-management skills to become the best versions of ourselves, and includes the explicit invitation to consider how best to use our Imagination – forming new ideas, visualising what could be, and being willing to explore possibilities. There have been a number of Carey students and staff who have drawn on their imagination to create new pathways during this challenging period, and as we commence Term 4, there are two new unique programs open to our students, staff and parents.

The first of these is a weekly exercise program, CareyFit, designed specifically for the Carey community with age-appropriate sessions. Former Australian Netballer and past Carey student, Sarah Wall, has drawn together a number of professional athletes to create an eight-week course that will commence on Monday 12 October. Sarah and her team will take you through a live one-hour workout, which not only aims to get bodies moving, but also includes wellbeing tips and a focus each week on an aspect of personal growth and development. These sessions occur once a week throughout the term for each of the four levels available: Prep–Year 3 (Monday), Years 4–6 (Tuesday), Years 7–8 (Wednesday) and Year 9–12 (Thursday). Also on CareyConnect, you’ll find an exciting Outdoor Education program commencing with our Year 10 students on October 15, followed by a Year 5 and Year 6 backyard camping program. We are hopeful with existing regulations that the program will include time at the Carey Sports Complex in Bulleen during the day with our Outdoor Education leading our primary students through activities normally experienced as part of the camping program.

We will continue to draw on our imagination every day in Term 4 as we dream, visualise, experiment, design and create together once again. We look forward to a term where our community continues to build healthy connections through our wonderful new programs.
