As we move through the early stages of spring and enjoy some improving weather, it has been wonderful to see the strong level of commitment from students involved in our Years 7 to 12 Athletics program. Training attendance has been excellent, with students embracing the opportunity to develop their skills, challenge themselves and contribute positively to the team environment.

Throughout the term, several Saturday morning trial meets have been scheduled, providing valuable opportunities for students to benchmark their performances and identify areas for improvement. These events have been an important part of the preparation process as athletes work towards reaching their best form at the conclusion of the season.

Athletics training will continue throughout the holiday period and into the first two weeks of Term 4 as we prepare for the Combined APS Athletics Finals Event on Saturday 17 October at Lakeside Stadium. This event is always one of the highlights of the APS sporting calendar, bringing together the strongest athletes from across the association in a wonderful showcase of talent, determination and school spirit. We look forward to seeing our students represent Carey with pride.

Alongside Athletics, a number of students have also committed to the Water Polo program throughout the Spring season. It has been pleasing to see continued growth across all teams, with noticeable improvements in team dynamics, skill development and overall performance. Most importantly, students have demonstrated a strong commitment to the program and a genuine enjoyment of the sport, both of which have contributed to a positive and rewarding season.

This year has been defined by incredible successes in sport across our school. In recent news, our First Netball Team were recently crowned Netball Victoria School Champions, cementing their place as the best senior girl’s netball team in Victoria.

We also saw a range of Carey students undertake a new sport this month with Flag Football, in a special competition hosted by the Los Angeles Rams NFL team. Congratulations to our Years 7/8 boys’ team, the Panthers, who rose to the occasion to become the inaugural Rams Under-14 Boys Champions!

Summer Sport preparation underway

While we are approaching the latter stages of the Spring Sport season, preparations for Summer Sport are already well underway. First Team training sessions and trials have been taking place during the final weeks of Term 3 and will continue into the early weeks of Term 4. Years 7 and 8 APS sport training

As was successfully implemented last year, Year 7 and 8 students who have selected an APS Summer Sport will have the opportunity to participate in Wednesday afternoon training sessions throughout the month of November. These sessions provide valuable preparation leading into the APS season, allowing students to further develop their skills, build team connections and gain confidence ahead of competition.

Further information regarding these sessions will be communicated to families early in Term 4.

We thank all students, coaches, staff and families for their continued support and commitment to Carey Sport and Activities. We look forward to an exciting conclusion to the Spring Sport season and the commencement of another successful Summer Sport campaign.
