A special congratulations to our Senior Girls Netball Team, who recently delivered a remarkable performance to be crowned Netball Victoria School Champions, cementing their place as the best senior girl’s netball team in Victoria.
The team was dominant from the outset, winning all seven matches on the qualifying day to secure progression to the finals. Despite being without two key players who were away with the Carey Zero program, the girls demonstrated tremendous resilience and determination, again winning all seven matches on finals day to advance to the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, Carey faced Rowville Secondary College and produced a commanding 20–11 victory. The result carried extra significance, with memories still fresh from last year's heartbreaking one-goal overtime loss to Rowville at the same stage of the competition. This year's performance was a reflection of the team's growth, maturity and unwavering determination to take the next step.
After nearly two full days of netball and with fatigue beginning to set in, the girls entered the grand final knowing the challenge that awaited them. Standing in their way was Geelong College, the same team that had narrowly defeated Carey by a single goal in the APS Grand Final earlier in the year.
The team rose magnificently to the occasion, producing a defensive masterclass to lead 8–2 at half-time after conceding just two goals. Carey maintained its intensity and composure throughout the second half to record an outstanding 16–9 victory and secure the championship title.
Every player contributed across the tournament, displaying exceptional teamwork, resilience and commitment to a shared goal. The disappointment of falling just short in the APS Grand Final provided the motivation and hunger to succeed, and the girls seized their opportunity with both hands. Their achievement is a testament to the effort, belief and dedication shown throughout the season, and the entire Carey community is incredibly proud of what they have accomplished.
