Welcome back for Term 3! As we approach the pointy end of the winter season, we are very much looking forward to our students continuing to immerse themselves in the myriad opportunities the Carey Winter Sports and Activity program presents. Our APS/AGSV sporting teams have enjoyed a most successful season thus far, with our First Netball, Girls Hockey, Boys Soccer and Girls Soccer Teams all still very much in the mix for their respective APS/AGSV premierships. The current winter chill may dampen one’s enthusiasm but it’s clear that the overwhelming majority of our students are thriving in their chosen activity. Please note that the final APS winter sports round will take place on Saturday 13 August.
Spring Season Updates
Our focus will soon turn to our non-compulsory offerings of water polo and athletics for the spring season. Our Year 7 to 12 Carey Athletics Team, under the tutelage of three-time Olympian Tamsyn Lewis-Manou, have begun their campaign with pre-season training sessions at the Kew campus on Monday and Thursday mornings (7.00–8.00am). The season proper will commence in Week 5 with after-school training sessions at Box Hill Athletic track from 16 August with our first APS lead up meet on Saturday 20 August.
Water Polo will commence with First Team try outs in Week 3 of Term 3 on Wednesday mornings before school at the Carey Sports Complex, Bulleen. Middle School students will also have the opportunity to play water polo in the APS competition, starting in Week 5 of Term 3.
For more information on athletics please contact Head Coach, Tamsyn Lewis-Manou, and for water polo inquiries, please contact the Staff Member in Charge, Manny Koutroulis.
