Recent rumours have indicated that APS sport will cease – this is certainly not the case, as all APS schools are in favour of maintaining sport (both competitive and recreational) within their school’s co-curricular offerings.
The review is well timed, as we face a number of challenges (and opportunities) as we move into the future. To that end, the review will consider several areas, including season length, venues, mid-week sport, staffing, compliance, new activities and other topics relevant to our schools and the organisation as a whole.
Rest assured, Carey will continue to be a proud and active member of the Associated Public Schools organisation. We are committed to fostering healthy lifestyles through sport and physical activity and look forward to the new and exciting opportunities the review will present.
All students, staff, coaches and parents will be invited to take part in an APS Sport survey to help us form a ‘Carey view’ to take to the independent consultants. The survey will go out to the Carey community in early May this year, we encourage you to take part!
This week we were thrilled to see the annual Robyn Macready-Bryan Cup competition between the Carey Girls First Cricket Team and the Old Carey Women’s Cricket Team. The event was a fantastic celebration of the history of girls’ cricket at Carey, a program which was, in no small part, shaped by Robyn Macready-Bryan.
Robyn taught at Carey from 1981 to 2017, and as well as being a Chemistry teacher, Head of Mathematics and Head of Information Technology throughout her time at the School, she was an important advocate for girls’ sport. She was an integral part of the Carey girls’ cricket program in its early days and coached the team to great success on multiple occasions. She also established the Old Carey Women’s Cricket Team, which she captained to a Premiership in 1983.
