On Tuesday 16 February, we will be launching our online engagement with you to help create a vision for Carey’s future. We are seeking to capture the voices of as many members of our community as possible.

The first stage of this took place with our staff on the professional learning days prior to the students’ return, and we now look forward to the insights of our parent community. Over a three-week period, families will receive an invitation by email to engage in an online questionnaire which aims to unearth our current strengths as well as future aspirations, hopes and dreams for our community. This intentionally affirming process is focussed on discovering what is working well and what we need to keep doing, as well as identifying new possibilities and opportunities for the future.

I am keen in this exercise to capture voices from across the whole community and consequently will be inviting alumni and current Senior School students to participate as well. Once the online engagement is complete, we will be running some focus groups in Term 2 with parents who would like to be involved in undertaking a deeper dive into some of the emerging ideas and issues.

We are excited to start this journey with you, and hope that you are looking forward to shaping the future for Carey.

Sport is back
How fantastic it was to kick off a new year of sport with all Year 7 families at Bulleen on Saturday. Staff and parents took great delight in seeing our 280 Year 7 students working through their warm-up with creator of our CareyFit program and Carey alumni Sarah Wall (2003). Year 7s and their parents then had a chance to meet coaches and prepare for the summer sport season ahead. I was also pleased to see the First Cricket and Tennis Teams back into action on the back of a successful rowing camp in the last week of the holidays at Nagambie.

A COVIDsafe school
I remind families to maintain vigilance in relation to COVID-19 and government guidelines in the community. As of midnight on Wednesday, restrictions have again been put in place, meaning that all staff and students from Year 7 upwards need to wear masks when indoors and on any public transport. Please continue to err on the side of caution. Should your child be ill or displaying any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please keep them at home and have them tested. We will continue to monitor this situation and there may be some modification of upcoming events. We must prioritise the health and safety of all in order to continue normal operations at school.

Commencement Service
This year’s Commencement Service will take place on Sandell Oval in the open air due to the COVID-19 requirements, at 7.00pm on Thursday 11 February. We look forward to inducting the School leaders as we formally mark the commencement of the year. Bookings will need to be made on TryBooking for this service as numbers are limited. Bookings will open tomorrow, Friday 5 February at 3.00pm. Masks are encouraged at the event.

We look forward to reconnecting with many of you over the weeks ahead at information nights and as we come together to celebrate our students’ efforts and achievements across the range of programs on offer.
