How great is it to be back making music on campus with our students! While music lessons have continued online and the students have really engaged in that process, actually being in the same space to play together has been a highlight of the return to school. The Carey Connections concerts served as a wonderful way to continue engaging with the community, and I would like to thank all of those who contributed to those concerts each week. Within each of the concerts we were able to represent JSD, JSK, MS and SS, with the breadth of the program evident in the contributions made.
The VCE Music Performance students all completed their final performance exams over the past four weeks. Thanks to Christine Luo, Alicia Bendall and Joe O’Connor for their work accompanying the students. We are blessed to have these teachers on staff who can work regularly with the students to ensure that they are performance ready. The role of the accompanist is vital to the overall success of the performance and I know that the students have really appreciated being able to collaborate so closely with Christine, Alicia and Joe.
As the year starts to wind down, it is exciting to know that some of our Year 12 students have already been offered places to study music at a tertiary level. It is wonderful to know that they will continue their love of music beyond the program at Carey and we look forward to keeping abreast of all their future musical endeavours.
It is hoped that before the year is out we might be able to offer some small performances live to our Carey community. In the meantime, thank you for your support of the students and the program. We look forward to many wonderful live performances in 2022.
