It was wonderful to see such strong uptake from families across the wide range of Carey holiday programs. These programs not only provide valuable care and enrichment opportunities during the break but also enable students to stay connected with friends, explore new interests and enjoy positive shared experiences beyond the classroom. My thanks to the staff who generously gave their time and energy to make these programs such a success.
It was a privilege to gather at St Paul’s Cathedral for our reimagined Commencement Service on Tuesday 21 April. This year, the service focussed intentionally on the commencement of the Secondary School journey for our Year 7 cohort – the Class of 2031. As a cohort, the students received the Carey Torch, a significant rite of passage symbolising belonging, responsibility and the light they now carry as members of our Secondary School community.
I extend my sincere thanks to all Year 7 parents for your engagement and support of this important event in our calendar. It was a meaningful occasion for students, families and staff, and a fitting way to affirm the beginning of this important chapter in their Carey journey.
As Term 2 gets underway, the vibrancy of school life has returned in full. Rehearsals for the Middle School musical, Seussical the Musical, have begun in earnest. The enthusiasm, commitment and joy evident from our students involved, both on stage and behind the scenes, has been a delight to see, and we look forward to sharing their hard work with the community later in the year.
Our winter sports season has also commenced, with both girls’ and boys’ teams beginning competition last week. The Gala rounds held on Thursday and Friday evenings were wonderful celebrations of school sport and a terrific way to commence the season. The spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship on display reflect the very best of Carey, and I thank staff, coaches and families for their encouragement and support.
Last week, we gathered across our campuses for Anzac Day services – important memorial occasions that invite reflection, gratitude and respect. These services provide powerful opportunities for our students to engage with history, honour service and sacrifice, and reflect on the values of courage, service and peace. I thank staff and students for the care and dignity with which these moments were marked.
As we move into Term 2, I look forward to the many opportunities in the weeks ahead across learning, sport, the arts, service and community life and to continuing our shared commitment to supporting every student to grow, flourish and find their place.
