One of the major highlights of the term was the Thursday Night Lights event, held on Thursday 18 June at Bulleen’s Cramer Stadium. Both our Girls and Boys First Basketball teams put on exceptional performances in front of a fantastic crowd.
The Girls Team set the tone early with an impressive win over Peninsula Grammar, showcasing composure and teamwork. The Boys followed with an outstanding performance against Brighton Grammar, delivering a memorable victory built on intensity, skill and cohesion.
The atmosphere throughout the evening was electric, with supporters from both schools filling the stands, playing music and beating drums to create a truly special environment. A standout individual performance came from Colin in Year 10, who delivered an incredible 44-point game – a remarkable achievement and a testament to his hard work and determination.
Our Boys First XVIII Football side took on the ‘Red Army’ of Scotch College on their home deck last Saturday in what proved to be one of the most gripping contests of the season.
In a hard-fought and tightly contested game, Carey held the lead for the majority of the match. However, Scotch managed to kick a late goal in the fourth term to edge in front, setting up a tense finish. As the final minutes ticked away, it looked as though Scotch would hold on for a memorable victory.
Displaying determination and composure under pressure, the Carey boys surged the ball forward one last time. Liam (Year 10) read the play brilliantly, crumbed the ball off hands and snapped a superb goal to put Carey back in front by two points. The siren sounded shortly after, sealing an unforgettable win.
In a fitting end, the Carey student supporter group flooded the ground in celebration – a fantastic moment shared by players, coaches and supporters alike.
Another significant highlight was the Game Changers: Careers in Sport Showcase, a collaboration between Carey Academy and Carey Sport held on Monday 22 June. This was a wonderful event that brought together industry-leading experts from across Australia’s sporting landscape to share their experiences, insights and career journeys with our community.
We look forward to supporting and cheering on our Netball First Girls this afternoon against Caulfield Grammar at the Carey Sports Complex – Bulleen, Cramer Stadium. We hope you are able to get down to support the girls!
There will be some training and practice matches in the upcoming Term 2 holidays for our First Teams, with all Sports and Activities across Years 7 to 12 commencing in Week 1 of Term 3. There are three or four weeks (depending on the sport/team) remaining of the Winter Sport season.
As we close out Term 2, I would once again like to thank all students, coaches, staff and families for their ongoing support and contribution to the Winter Sport program. We look forward to building on this momentum in Term 3 and continuing to provide enriching sporting experiences for all.
