The event brought together an impressive line-up of leaders from across the sports sector, offering attendees valuable insights into careers both on and off the field.
The night commenced with a keynote address from Kieren Perkins OAM, CEO of the Australian Sports Commission and Olympic gold medallist, who reflected on how sport has shaped his leadership journey, values and career beyond elite competition.
Guests then had the opportunity to attend two breakout sessions covering a range of career pathways, including elite sport transitions, coaching and performance, health services, sports business and sports media. Speakers represented leading organisations such as the AFL, Cricket Victoria, OrthoSport Victoria, Basketball Victoria and Performe Sports Medicine, sharing their personal career journeys, industry insights and practical advice for students considering a future in sport.
Breakout sessions included:
A networking showcase followed, featuring universities, industry partners and Carey representatives, allowing attendees to continue conversations with speakers, explore further study options and learn more about careers within the sporting sector.
The event highlighted the breadth of opportunities available in sport, from high-performance coaching and sports medicine to marketing, media, leadership and administration. Most importantly, it encouraged students to think broadly about how their passion for sport can translate into a rewarding and meaningful career.
Game Changers was made possible through the collaboration and dedication of many staff and volunteers, with special thanks to the project team and all those who contributed on the day to ensure its success. It was a fantastic example of how sport can connect learning, career pathways and community.
