There are few events in Melbourne’s cultural calendar that combine artistic excellence, community spirit and genuine impact quite like the Camberwell Art Show. This year, we are delighted to invite the Carey community to experience it together at a dedicated Carey Community Evening on Wednesday 8 July, from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.

The exhibition will be held at Carey’s Kew campus in the JOT Quad, transforming a familiar space into a vibrant contemporary gallery. It is a unique opportunity to see an exceptional range of artwork right here within our own school environment.

Tickets for the Carey Community Evening are free for current Carey staff, students and families, but you will need to register in advance here. Come and enjoy a drink as well as some cheese and biscuits and take in the magnificent Camberwell Art Show display. It is designed to be relaxed, social and welcoming. Whether you are a seasoned collector, a first-time buyer, or simply someone who enjoys being surrounded by beautiful and thought-provoking work, there will be something for everyone.

The Art Show opens with a ticketed Gala Evening on Friday 3 July, followed by general admission from Saturday 4 July through to Sunday 12 July. Full details can be found at the official website.

About the Camberwell Art Show

The Art Show has a remarkable history. It began in 1966 at Camberwell Grammar School with just over 1,000 artworks, driven by a vision to build a collection for the people of Camberwell – now the City of Boroondara. By 1969, it had grown significantly and played a role in launching the new Camberwell Town Hall. Just a few years later, entries exceeded 2,000, and by 1983 the show peaked at more than 4,000 works.

Over time, the Art Show has not only showcased emerging and established artists, but also contributed meaningfully to the cultural fabric of our community. More than 50 artworks have been donated to the City of Camberwell, and the event has received recognition at the highest levels within Rotary. Since its inception, the show has raised over $3 million to support vital humanitarian projects locally, nationally and internationally.

Today, the Camberwell Art Show continues to evolve. The introduction of online entry and selection processes has strengthened connections with artists and collectors alike, while maintaining its reputation as one of Australia’s leading art shows. Its success rests on the quality and diversity of the artwork, and the extraordinary efforts of volunteers, partners and supporters who bring it all together each year.

Most importantly, your attendance supports a tradition of giving. Every visit, every conversation and every purchase contribute to the ongoing work of the Rotary Club of Camberwell and the many causes it supports.

We encourage all members of the Carey community – families, friends, alumni and staff – to come along, enjoy the evening and be part of something special.

We look forward to seeing you there.
