Thank you for welcoming me to your community with so much enthusiasm and hope. I feel a great sense of pride and joy being the leader of our secondary school and am excited about the opportunities ahead. We have so much to celebrate.

Our shared focus for Term 2

Care, Respect and Growth are centric to our experience. Our team has reflected on ways that we can live our values as behaviours in the secondary school, identifying the following focus areas for Term 2:

  • A focus on wearing our PE uniform with pride and precision.
  • A focus on our learning environments and our classroom routines.
  • A focus on how we interact with each other throughout the school day.

You may be aware that we have engaged our students in conversations about the PE uniform and school bags, the classroom routines and protocols that sustain the conditions for deep learning, and the ways we might engage meaningfully with each other on campus.

Thank you for your support as we turn our focus toward these areas in Term 2; we appreciate your understanding and partnership when issues may arise and look forward to co-constructing next steps whenever our students choose behaviours that don’t align with our expectations.

Opportunities to work in partnership

Evidence has proven that the relationship between teachers, students and parents/carers has a significant impact on academic achievement and wellbeing. Throughout Term 1, our secondary school team has been engaging in a consultation process to identify our areas of great strength (of which there are many!) and some areas of opportunity.

We are planning to extend our community consultation more broadly to include parents and carers in Term 2. If you are interested in contributing through a survey, focus group and/or working party, please email deputyprincipal@carey.com.au to join our contact list.

I look forward to listening and learning from you, working collaboratively to continue improving our amazing school. Thank you in advance for the gift of your time.

I wish you and your families a restful and regenerative term break. I am looking forward to another term leading the secondary school and am feeling energised about all of the amazing opportunities for us to celebrate the achievements of our staff and students in Term 2.
