JSPA Celebrates Carey Literature Festival

The JSPA was thrilled to be able to support the Carey Celebrates Literature Festival, which is an annual celebration of literature in all its forms. The JSPA offered Junior School Kew families a special afternoon tea on Wednesday 5 June before the session with our special guest presenter, children’s author and artist Leigh Hobbs. Families had the opportunity to pre-order cupcakes, jelly snakes and Pop Tops before the session commenced!

The children loved listening to to Leigh’s stories and learning about his writing background with plenty of questions from our audience! Children enjoyed hearing about his humorous books, including Mr Badger and the Magic Mirror (2011) and his most recent book Mr Chicken All Over Australia (2019). Leigh’s books have won many of the major children’s awards in Australia and in 2010, Old Tom was shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literacy Awards.

This was a lovely afternoon for the Junior School community to further embrace Carey’s Literature Festival. Proceeds from the sale of cupcakes and donations taken through the orders will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The JSPA would like to thank Library staff, JSPA Committee members and Ribbons and Bows Cakes, who provided our delicious cupcakes.
