Join us for an inspiring evening with leaders from across the sports world, including the Australian Sports Commission, Hockey Australia, Cricket Victoria and more. Whether you are a student dreaming of a career in sport, an alum exploring future pathways or a professional looking to connect, this event will open your eyes to what is possible.

What to expect

Hear from industry experts as they share how they built their careers in sport. From elite athletes to professionals working behind the scenes, each session offers real insights, practical advice and honest reflections on the pathways, challenges and opportunities within the sporting world.

  • Timings
    Doors open: 5.00pm (career booths open)
    Keynote and breakout sessions: 6.00–7.45pm
    Networking and showcase: 7.45–8.45pm
  • Location: Carey Baptist Grammar School, Kew campus
  • Light refreshments will be provided
  • This event is open to all students, parents, alumni and members of the Carey community

Keynote: Beyond the Game – Diverse Careers in Sport
In this keynote, Kieren Perkins AM, Olympic gold medallist, will reflect on his personal journey and the role sport has played in shaping his career, leadership approach and values. Drawing on his experiences both within and beyond elite sport, he will share insights into the opportunities that sport can create and how these can translate into diverse career pathways.

Breakout sessions

You will have the opportunity to attend two of the below breakout sessions:

  • Elite Sport… Now What?

    Kieren Perkins AM (CEO, Australian Sports Commission)
    David Pryles (CEO, Hockey Australia)

    What comes next after elite sport? Whether transitioning due to retirement, injury or a shift in goals, planning for life beyond competition is essential. This session explores how athletes pivot into new careers across coaching, media, business, health and more. Hear firsthand how our speakers have navigated this transition and built successful careers beyond the field.

     

  • Game Ready – Coaching and Performance

    Lachlan Fooks (Physiotherapist, Performe Sports Medicine)

    Behind every high-performing athlete is a team of experts focussed on physical preparation, mindset and resilience. This session explores careers in coaching and performance, including strength and conditioning, performance coaching, and sports psychology. Learn how these professionals help athletes reach their peak and discover the pathways into these roles. 

     

  • The Science of Sport – Health Services in Sport

    Andrew Oppy (Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon, OrthoSport Victoria)

    Keeping athletes healthy is critical to performance and longevity. This session highlights the vital role of medical and allied health professionals in sport, from injury prevention to recovery and rehabilitation. Hear from an experienced orthopaedic surgeon as they share insights into their career journey and the impact of their work behind the scenes in supporting athletes at every level.

     

  • Game Plan: Business – Sport and Business

    Felicity George (General Manager Communications and Stakeholder Relations, Cricket Victoria)

    This session explores the careers that drive the industry off the field, including sponsorship, marketing, event management and digital innovation. Learn how professionals build brands, manage major events and shape the commercial side of sport. 
     

  • The Media Game – Sports Media

    Adam White (Sports Broadcaster)

    From live commentary to digital content creation, sports media plays a powerful role in how we experience the game. This session covers traditional and emerging media pathways, including broadcasting, journalism, social media and production. Hear how stories in sport are created, shared and brought to life across different platforms.
