It is exciting to be well into the winter Sport and Activities season, with many individual and team highlights already emerging across the program. The energy, commitment and pride shown by our students, staff and coaches continues to build as the season progresses, and it has been fantastic to see such strong engagement across all year levels.

Girls First Teams making their mark

One of the standout highlights of the season to date has been the outstanding performances of several of our First Teams who remain undefeated: Girls First Hockey, Girls First Football and Girls First Soccer!

These teams have demonstrated exceptional skill, resilience and teamwork, and are setting a fantastic example for the wider program. We look forward to watching their continued success throughout the season.

Friday night lights – a proud Carey moment

A highlight of the past week was the Boys First Football XVIII fixture played under lights at Harry Trott Oval on Friday 15 May. The match created a wonderful atmosphere, with an outstanding turnout from Carey students who came together to support the team.

It was particularly pleasing to see students across all year levels immaculately presented in their winter school uniform, creating a strong visual representation of school pride and unity. While the result did not go our way, the occasion itself was far greater than the scoreboard. It was a fantastic community event that brought together students, parents and staff in a shared display of support, spirit and connection.

These moments are an important part of what makes sport at Carey so special.

Amber’s White Light (AWL) Round – this weekend

This weekend marks one of the most significant and meaningful events on the Carey Sport calendar – the annual Amber's White Light (AWL) Round.

The day brings our community together to recognise and promote positive mental health, as well as caring, respecting and supporting one another. There will be a cake stall, AWL Marquee, barbecue and canteen in full operation.

As part of this year’s initiative, we are also raising funds and awareness through a silent auction item: a signed Western Bulldogs AFL Jumper from Ed Richards, Carey Class of 2017. We encourage all members of the community to consider supporting this cause through the auction and by coming along during the day to support our teams and be part of what is always a special and purposeful occasion.

AWL Round fixture: Carey Sport Complex – Bulleen

8.15am – First Girls Soccer vs GGS on Wilcox A
9.00am – First Girls Netball vs Peninsula Grammar in Cramer Stadium
10.00am – First Boys Soccer vs Xavier on Wilcox A
11.00am – First Girls Football vs GGS on Dunshea Oval
1.00pm – First Boys Football vs Xavier on Dunshea Oval

A special highlight of the day will be the presentation of the Spirit of the Game Award following both First Football matches. This award recognises a player from each team who best demonstrates the qualities that Amber embodied:

  • dedication
  • team spirit
  • respect
  • enthusiasm
  • encouragement of teammates.

Each recipient’s name will be engraved on the AWL Shield in recognition of their contribution.

Important reminder: There will be no sport fixtures or training on the King’s Birthday Weekend (Saturday 6 June).

We look forward to seeing many members of our community across the Bulleen precinct this weekend, supporting our students and contributing to what is always one of the most special days on the Carey Sport calendar.
