On Tuesday morning this week as I left home to go for an early morning walk, I quickly realised that I should have put a beanie on. That is the first time since September that I was reminded that the hair left on my head would not be sufficient to keep it warm. As with the darkness that is claiming more of the early morning and more of the evening, it was a reminder that the seasons are changing.

We are now in autumn – a time of cooler mornings, but generally lovely sunny days. Soon some trees will begin to shed their leaves and, within a month or so, Sackville Street will be covered in leaves. I enjoy the rhythm of the seasons, for each season has something to embrace and enjoy.

Our lives also go through different seasons. There is a season when our children are young, a season when we enjoy success in an area of our lives, a season when we experience sadness or when our aging parents require more care and support. Throughout all the seasons of our lives – both those seasons we love and those we would rather not experience – God’s grace is ever-present.

In the changing of the seasons, God’s love remains the one constant. Whether it be the mountain top or the valley or somewhere in between, God is always present. He draws near during seasons of hardship, anxiety and sadness. He sustains through all the seasons of our lives.

May His peace be with you and your families.
