With the recent highs of the winter APS season a fading memory, where Carey secured no fewer than four APS First Team Premierships, the spring season has been somewhat frustrating for all during the current lockdown. However, in true Carey spirit, our students have taken up a number of remote sporting opportunities. Our Athletics team have been logging on to afternoon online training sessions with their coaches to great effect – if you’re out and about at the local park you may see Carey students running, jumping and throwing! Well done also to our First XI cricketers and First Tennis Squad members, all of whom are involved in remote training with their coaches in preparation for their upcoming summer APS season.

Over 190 students from Years 9 to 12 have selected rowing as their summer sport for 2022. As a result, our rowers have been busy preparing for the upcoming summer regattas in Term 4 and 1 with regular fitness and ergo training at home. In addition, online parent/student forums were held covering important topics such as nutrition and strength and conditioning for rowing, along with Rowing Injury Prevention Webinars by Rowing Australia physiotherapist Andrew Fooks.

At this stage we are confident of a return to sport in Term 4. How this looks is still to be confirmed due to the uncertainty of the current lockdown landscape. We will be making every effort to engage as many students in both Middle and Senior Schools in sport as we see physical activity and the associated benefits of connectedness and collaboration (and fun!) as keys to our students’ overall wellbeing.

In the meantime please urge your kids to remain active every day and we look forward to some fantastic opportunities to re-connect in Term 4.
