On Monday September 4, Carey participated in the 2023 OutLoud Secondary Poetry Slam, which took place at the Wheeler Centre with 70 young poets on stage. Sharon (Year 12) was awarded first place and Juliet (Year 10) took second place. Everyone was blown away with their flawless, polished and inspiring performance. Initially, there was only supposed to be one prize for the Senior category, but because Juliet’s performance was so brilliant, they made an exception to the rule and awarded her second place.

A recording of the recital can be found here, where at timestamp 00:42.30, you can watch Sharon recite her deeply moving piece, and immediately following at 00:44.30 minutes, Juliet delivers her rhythmic and emotional poem. At 01:01.00, you can watch the judges announce Sharon and Juliet as first and second place of the OutLoud Secondary Poetry Slam.

Sharon and Juliet have both been invited to perform at the next Teen Gala which will take place in December at the Wheeler Centre. Hats off to the talent, poetic prowess and creativity of Sharon and Juliet! Well done!
