Welcome to New Staff C.S. Lewis, in his book The Abolition of Man, discusses the concept of education as propagation, where teachers nurture, guide, develop and ‘transmit’ knowledge, skills and, most importantly, values to their students. Staff are certainly a school’s most valuable resource, and in 2020 we welcome a number of new staff to the Performing Arts faculty.

Sonny Chua joins Carey as Keyboard Co-ordinator, Piano Teacher and Accompanist. Previously Director of Music at Mac Robertson Girls School and Melbourne High School, Sonny brings his considerable experience as an educator, composer and performer to Carey.

While not new to Carey, Alicia Bendall takes on the role of Vocal Co-ordinator in 2020. Alicia will continue to work with Orpheus Choir and support musical productions, as well as directing Conchords and working with choral and vocal staff to further develop Carey’s extensive choral program.

Oakley Grenell’s diverse experience as a musician and teacher is evident as he joins the music classroom team at the Junior School Kew, in addition to his existing role as Guitar Teacher.

We’re also delighted to welcome Megan Thompson back to the role of Drama Teacher at Carey. Megan’s experience with both middle and senior drama classes will be a wonderful asset to our school.

Commencement Service and Principal’s Commissioning
This year our annual Commencement Service includes the commissioning of Carey’s new Principal, Jonathan Walter, and will be held on Thursday 13 February at 7.30pm at St Paul’s Cathedral. Groups involved include Bel Canto Choir, Musique du Coeur, Orpheus Choir, Senior Choir and the Senior Brass Ensemble. Rehearsals before the service will take place at the times below, and further details will be sent directly to families in due course. We look forward to a wonderful celebration of our whole school community in this beautiful venue.
