The last two weeks of school have seen a number of opportunities for parents to reconnect with the school community. Meeting our Prep and Year 5 parents at the welcome drinks was a lovely chance for our parents to either connect for the first time or, for some, an opportunity for a long overdue reconnection.

Parents of Prep students were invited to come along and see their children participate in the Perceptual Motor Program. The students relished the opportunity to display their ball, gross motor and hand-eye co-ordination skills and share an element of their school day with their parents.

The Year 6 students celebrated the culmination of their term’s work by inviting parents to attend the Travel Expo presentations. Parents were treated to a cultural extravaganza where the students shared their knowledge and understanding of their chosen country by way of a variety of mediums including digital advertisements, brochures, quizzes and oral presentations.

The Year 4 students invited parents to their Meet the Blogger afternoon where they showcased their own personal blog that they created this term. They also shared what they have learnt on how to stay safe online and how to post and comment appropriately.

We will continue to provide opportunities for parents to engage in their children’s learning during Term 2.

Music Assembly
After what has seemed like an eternity, it was a joyous occasion to witness our Bumbl3 and Bumbl4 choirs sing with such exuberance and sheer happiness at our inaugural Music assembly last week. The audience were enthralled witnessing the choir’s performances, a group of Suzuki strings performers and special individual musical items played by some of our very talented Junior School musicians. We were also treated to a special performance from the Middle and Senior School mandolin orchestra that included some past students from Junior School. Thank you to the music team for a wonderful celebration of music.

Changes to pick up in Term 2
Whilst we encourage parents to continue with the current pick-up arrangements, we are very pleased to announce changes to our pick-up routines beginning on the first day back in Term 2, Tuesday 20 April. We are now able to welcome parents back into the School grounds for pick-up from outside the classrooms at 3.15pm. The children will be dismissed from the external doors and parents will be able to meet the Preps in the Prep South playground, Year 1 outside their classrooms and Years 2 to 6 at the front of the Hickman building. To keep our community safe and to support our COVID-19 protocols, we ask that parents remain outside the buildings and leave the grounds by 3.30pm. Please make sure you clearly communicate pick-up routines with your children to avoid unnecessary confusion.

We will continue with the morning drop-off routines as they are working very well, and our students have become increasingly independent, managing their morning routines and organising themselves in preparation for the day’s learning.

Announcing our new Head of Junior School Kew
Upon Libby Russell's retirement at the end of Term 2, after 13 years of exceptional service, we would like to share with you the news that Kylie Baxter will be beginning in this role in Term 3.

With an educational career spanning over twenty years, Kylie comes to Carey from Westbourne Grammar where she has been Deputy Head of the Junior School since 2012. A dynamic, committed, and forward-thinking educator, Kylie’s experience in leading and managing key aspects of school operations for Westbourne’s three junior campuses is extensive.

We wish everyone a safe and relaxing Easter break and look forward to and exciting Term 2.
