As a part of the National Science Week celebrations at Carey, we would like to highlight one of our enterprising Year 11 students, Jerry Zhang. Jerry was involved in the Yale Global Scholars program this July, which is a two-week academic enrichment program for excellent students. Jerry made it through the comprehensive application process for students all around the world, and was meant to be visiting the USA for the program, but due to COVID-19, it was moved online.
During the program, Jerry took the idea of creating a student-run scientific journal and pitched it to his fellow young visionaries, which gained traction rapidly. Since then, he’s formed a team of 50 students across 22 countries to publish their very first Young Global Scientists Journal. You can check out their website and read their journal online.
On the back of this significant achievement, Middle School Biology, Science and Maths teacher Matthias Poi interviewed Jerry to find out more about his journey to the Yale Global Scholars, and the work he is doing on the Young Global Scientists Journal.
