It’s never too early to start your child’s learning journey at Carey Baptist Grammar School. With classes and programs ranging from three-year-old kindergarten to Year 12, we are among the top tier of co-ed private schools Melbourne parents can consider. As part of our innovative ethos, Carey is proud to have four different properties with four very different environments. Our campuses provide variety and support different learning styles, keeping students engaged and excited to learn.

In this article, we’ll outline the key educational and experiential advantages of each Carey campus.

Our Kew Campus

Our most central location, Kew, offers the full educational spectrum from early learning to Year 12. Located in the prestigious Kew private schools area, this campus has easy access to trains, buses and more. Whether your child is just starting school or preparing for life beyond secondary education, the vibrant, leafy Kew campus is a beautiful place to go to school.

The Kew campus features a separate, purpose-built section for the Early Learning Centre and a second separate section for the Junior School. This ensures that students can form a connection with the main campus and make visits to the impressive facilities there, while primarily being in an age-appropriate environment. With their whole learning journey taking place on one property, the Kew campus demystifies the transitions between the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools.

With a stunning art gallery, performing arts facilities, four libraries, collaborative areas, dedicated classrooms for specialist subjects and the Kew Sports Complex a short walk away, every passion is supported by a state-of-the-art space.

Our Donvale Campus

Located in Melbourne’s East, our Donvale campus is a convenient choice for many families. Catering for students from Early Learning to Year 6, Junior School Donvale is an idyllic place to start school.

Many parents look into Donvale private schools because they want their children to experience learning in a natural landscape. Offering balance, Carey’s Donvale campus gives students a picturesque childhood surrounded by nature. Blending into the native bushland and adjoining Mullum Creek, the buildings are designed to reflect the natural environment. The campus features a tree-house-inspired and well-resourced library; plant life inside all classrooms; and large, dedicated spaces for art, music and sport.

Students are encouraged to create meaningful relationships with nature, from the Bush Kinder program to studying the local wetlands in their later years. Donvale gives students the chance to spend plenty of time outdoors in nature, playing and learning in a distinctly Australian landscape.

Our Bulleen Sports Complex

Carey’s 14-acre sports complex in Bulleen is just one of the many reasons our sports program is so highly regarded. Helpfully located between the Kew and Donvale campuses, the Bulleen Sports Complex is an incredible facility for physical education, sports training, competitions and more.

The complex features seven playing fields across the sprawling grounds. Made for outdoor programs, students enjoy playing cricket, soccer, football, rugby, softball, athletics and more.

Also featuring indoor venues, the Bulleen Sports Complex has both The Geoffrey Stevens Swimming Pool and the Gerard Cramer Physical Education Centre. The pool has a 25-metre, eight-lane heated swimming pool, a separate diving pool, and spectator seating overlooking both pools. The PE centre is a large indoor stadium set up as a gymnasium, with enough room to operate two netball or basketball courts simultaneously.

With mandatory summer and winter sports programs, the Bulleen Sports Complex facilities give students a wide variety of activities to try. From tennis in the sunshine to winter swimming carnivals, the complex makes it easy for students to stay active year-round.

Our Outdoor Education Campus

A home away from home for Carey students, Camp Toonallook is our four-hectare outdoor education campus. Located on the scenic Banksia Peninsula, the camp sits on the shores of Lake Victoria. Affectionately known as ‘Toona’, the camp is home to many students’ favourite Carey memories.

Camp Toonalook hosts Year 5 and Year 7 students as part of our wider outdoor education program. Students enjoy fun water activities on the lake and nearby rivers and have exciting land-based adventures in the bushland around the camp. From kayaking and biking to bushwalking and learning how to put up tents, the camp is designed to push students a little outside of their comfort zones. Our team of professional Outdoor Education instructors provide challenges that develop physical confidence and strengthen resilience – while having plenty of fun.

The Year 7 camp at Camp Toonallook marks an essential part of the orientation to Middle School. Giving students the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the classroom, the camp creates deeper connections, shared experiences and helps expand friendship groups.

The stunning camp is also used for leadership camps for older students and is one of Carey’s greatest assets.
