The Little Library is the Kew ELC’s library, formerly housed in Farrer House. With the repurposing of Farrer House to become the new Junior School – Kew campus reception, the Little Library needed a new home. A corner room of the Evans Library, formerly used as a storage space for class set books, is now the lovely light-filled room where children from the ELC come to have their library lessons. A brand-new rug, donated by of the Junior School Parents Association, completes the new space.
The students and teachers have already given the new-look library the thumbs up. Library staff have been amused to hear children make comments like, ‘Wow, It looks like a real library now’, and ‘Oh, cool, where are the Minecraft books now?’ Staff have noted wider reading of collections which are now more visible, and there is a sense of the students being reinvigorated in their reading.
Book Week is coming up in August and with that the excitement of announcement of the Books of the Year. All the Carey Libraries will be focussing on the Shortlisted and Notable books for 2025 with lots of planned fun activities for students and staff to share in the love of reading and books: fiction, non-fiction and picture books.
