With Term 2 well underway and the Winter Sport season drawing to a close over the next few weeks, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff, coaches and parents for the tremendous work that takes place both behind the scenes and on the front line to ensure we continue to provide a competitive, engaging and enjoyable sporting environment for our students.
A special thank you also goes to our students for their commitment, resilience and enthusiasm throughout the season. Whether in rain, hail or shine, our students have consistently turned up each week with a willingness to learn, improve and contribute to their teams. We look forward to what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the winter season, with several highlights and achievements worth celebrating.
Student sporting achievements
We are proud to recognise a number of outstanding individual performances and representative honours achieved by Carey students in recent months.
Clementine (Year 7) finished 11th in the Under 14 3km event at the Victorian All Schools XCR Cross Country Championships in June. Clementine is also a strong chance of competing at the Athletics Australia National Championships in Ballarat on 22 August.
Cassie (Year 9) proudly represented Victoria Metro at the 2026 Under 16 National Basketball Championships in Bendigo from 5 to 12 July. Victoria Metro progressed to the Grand Final and finished with a well-deserved silver medal.
Elliott (Year 9) has been selected in the Australian Under 16 Indoor Cricket Team and will compete at the 2026 Junior World Series in South Africa during September and October. Congratulations also to his brother Finn (Year 10), who has been selected in the Australian Under 18 Indoor Cricket Team.
Joe, Eli and TJ (Year 9) have been selected to represent Australia on the Playmaker AAU Tour in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, competing in elite basketball tournaments including the International World Championships and experiencing the NBA Summer League environment.
Milly (Year 7) recently represented Victoria at the Water Polo National Championships in Hobart as a member of the Under 13 State Team.
Herald Sun Shield
The semi-final Herald Sun Shield matches took place today for our Intermediate and Senior Girls Football Teams. The Carey Intermediate Girls fought hard against a strong Sacred Heart College but ultimately came away with a loss. The team’s efforts were highly commendable and making it into the semi-finals is a remarkable achievement for such a young team. The future of Carey Girls Footy is bright!
The Senior Girls Football team competed against Rowville Secondary College and we’re very proud and excited to announce that they won and will be playing in the Grand Final on Tuesday 11 August in Port Melbourne! Their opponent is yet to be confirmed.
This is a huge week for our Senior/First Girls Football Team as they are also competing in the APS semi-finals this Saturday. Congratulations girls and good luck!
Junior State Hockey Championships
The Junior State Hockey Championships were held at the beginning of July, with several Carey students enjoying outstanding success:
- Mack (Year 8) and Owen (Year 7) – gold medallists with the Red Devils
- Archie (Year 7) – silver medallist with the Central Melbourne Flames
- Archie (Year 8) – bronze medallist with the Eastern Metro Hotshots
- Bea (Year 8) – fourth place with the Central Melbourne Flames.
Congratulations to all players on their achievements and representation at state level.
Several Carey students were also selected in the YJFL Interleague Representative Football teams across the Year 8 and Year 9 age groups, competing in a carnival during the school holidays. Congratulations to all students involved in this fantastic opportunity.
National success for senior students
A huge congratulations to Sarah (Year 12) for her exceptional performance at the 2026 Australian National Gymnastics Championships in Sydney. Sarah secured an incredible three gold medals:
- Gold Medal – Floor, Level 10 (17+) National Champion
- Gold Medal – Vault, Level 10 (17+) National Champion
- Gold Medal – Victoria Level 10 Team – Selection in the Victorian Level 10 Team is a significant achievement in itself, highlighting Sarah's dedication and excellence within a highly competitive field.
Finn (Year 12) was recently selected in the Hockey Australia Under 18 National Futures Squad, recognising him as one of the top 27 emerging male hockey players in the country as he continues his journey through Australia's high-performance pathway.
Congratulations also to Jade (Year 12), who represented Victoria at the National Hockey Carnival in Darwin during the holidays. Victoria progressed through to the Grand Final before narrowly falling to Queensland, with Jade returning home as a national silver medallist. A wonderful achievement.
