What a terrific opening to the Winter Sport season for Carey! Last week saw our First Teams officially commence their campaigns, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting and competitive season ahead.

Anzac Day Gala Round – First Teams in action

All Girls First Teams took to the courts and fields on Thursday afternoon and evening, participating in the annual Anzac Day Gala Round at central venues across Melbourne.
Our Boys First Teams played on Friday afternoon, with the exception of Basketball, who also competed on Thursday.

There were some outstanding results across the board:

  • All Girls Teams recorded impressive victories, with the exception of Basketball, who played extremely well against the benchmark team from Caulfield Grammar.
  • All Boys Teams were victorious, except for Soccer, who fought out a 2–2 draw and created plenty of chances to take all three points.

There were countless highlights across the round, including:

  • Boys Basketball produced a superb win over Scotch College on their home court, in front of the famous Red Army. This was a particularly pleasing result given the youth and relative inexperience of our team.
  • Both Hockey Teams recorded convincing wins, building early confidence for the remainder of the season.
  • Both Football Teams delivered dominant performances to secure strong opening victories.
  • Netball played outstanding team-based netball to run away with a convincing win over IGS.
  • Girls Soccer delivered a dominant display at the Home of the Matildas, dismantling Mentone Grammar with an emphatic performance.

Importantly, a number of fixtures were preceded by Anzac Day ceremonies, providing a powerful sense of reflection and community. These moments allowed us to honour and remember the service men and women who have fought and died in service for our country.

We now look forward to all year levels and teams commencing their Winter Sport fixtures this Saturday 2 May.

We have a winner

A huge congratulations to Jess (Year 10), who claimed victory in the annual APS/AGSV/BAS Golf Tournament held at Spring Valley Golf Club on Monday 27 April.

Jess produced an outstanding round, finishing two under the card to win the individual title by three shots, defeating all boys and girls in the field. An exceptional achievement – congratulations, Jess!

Well done also to Max (Year 11), Hugo (Year 11) and Sam (Year 8), who also represented Carey superbly on the day.

Winter sport so far!

3v3 Basketball state success

Carey also enjoyed remarkable success at the State 3v3 Basketball Competition held at the State Basketball Centre on Tuesday 28 April.

Carey had two teams (Gold and Blue) qualify for the finals. In incredible scenes, both teams won their semi-finals, resulting in an all-Carey Grand Final.

The Carey Blue team emerged victorious by two points in a close battle, earning the title of Division 2 State Champions.

Team Gold – Division 2

Madeline (Year 8)
Sevon (Year 8)
Lauren (Year 8)
Mackenzie (Year 8)

Team Blue – Division 2 (State Champions)

Scarlett (Year 7)
Grace (Year 7)
Rose (Year 7)
Myla (Year 8)

Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding achievement and for representing Carey with such pride and sportsmanship.

A tremendous start to the Winter season – well done to all students, coaches and staff involved. We look forward to another exciting weekend of sport ahead!
