In 2024, we began a collaboration between Year 11 Art students and Melbourne-based artist and author Tai Snaith. Through this collaboration, our students created collages with found objects, ceramics and books that were of significance to the students. In a series of workshops with Tai, students created a new narrative using an open page in the book and arranging the objects in a meaningful way.

The work was inspired by Tai’s Open Book project commissioned by the State Library of Victoria. Similar to Snaith's project, we wanted to find a location at Carey to present the works at scale. With the support of Art Technician Si De Boer, banners were created in the colours of the Carey Houses, which have been hung temporarily in the JOT Quad. The Quad represents a meeting place and a central site for learning and collaboration and this matched perfectly to the aims of this collaboration between Carey art students and Tai Snaith.
