During Term 3, our musicians have been very active both within the School and in our broader community. Bel Canto choir has performed at our Open Morning and an assembly, and are to be commended for their achievement at the recent Victorian Schools Music Festival where they received a gold shield.

Many of our Junior School students have been involved in performing before their peers at our assemblies as well as instrument specific soirees. Beyond this, Year 5 students enjoyed learning about the music and culture from a West African tradition with our visiting artist at a special incursion. Appiah introduced them to a beautiful instrument, the African harp, or Kora. Looking ahead, our Year 2 and 3 cohorts will be visiting Hamer Hall in the city to experience a wonderful concert presented by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra called Eliza’s Orchestral Adventure.

Our vocalists will be presenting solos very soon at our Junior Vocal Soiree alongside Vivace and performers from Donvale, to be held in the Carey Chapel. Another aspect of being a musician is to serve our community with our skills as performers, and our musicians have also played as part of our chapel services in this capacity.

Thank you to all of our music teachers, families and students for their ongoing commitment to music this term.

Timothy Barker
Head of Junior School Music
