The Middle School has been buzzing with energy this term, with a number of exciting initiatives bringing our community together. Highlights include the relaunch of Carey Credits and Academic Credits, celebrating our motto, ‘Good Person, Great Learner’. Alongside our recent Year 8 Immersive Program, these initiatives continue to shape a Middle School where students feel connected, engaged and inspired to grow.

Our Year 9 students have particularly impressed us with their leadership, initiative and maturity. As recognition of this, they have been entrusted with their own Common Room, equipped with sandwich makers and other amenities. This dedicated space reflects their growth and responsibility, while also giving them a place to collaborate, relax and strengthen their sense of belonging. Central to this spirit of community is our House system, which continues to foster creativity, service and connection in many unique ways.

Cartwright and Hickman have brought colour and vibrancy through activities that spark creativity and collaboration. Cartwright students continue to run The Cartwright Column, publishing interviews, articles and photography, alongside fun initiatives such as scavenger hunts, trivia, cupcake-making and mentor challenges. Hickman has been equally energetic, with burger days, newspaper fashion shows, and lively competitions like Twister, Charades and Ga-Ga Ball. These opportunities encourage communication, teamwork and quality thinking, all within an inclusive and supportive environment.

Meanwhile, Dunshea, Moore, Newnham and Gadsden have placed a strong emphasis on service, leadership and community. Dunshea has hosted bake sales, ice cream days, arts and crafts, and even a KFC Day. Moore has introduced food days and Tech-Free Tuesdays to encourage face-to-face connection. Newnham has combined fundraising with team-building events such as fashion shows, trivia and the Birthday Box initiative, while Gadsden has shown outstanding House participation, modelling the idea that collective effort outweighs individual achievement. Across these Houses, leaders have inspired confidence, humility and active citizenship, ensuring students reflect on how they contribute to the life of their community.

Together, our Middle School Houses continue to bring Carey’s values of Care, Respect and Growth to life. Through creativity, service, collaboration and friendly competition, our students are developing into confident, compassionate learners who not only strengthen their Houses but also enrich the Middle School and wider Carey community.
