One of the really great things about the evening is the opportunity for the younger musicians to hear the senior groups. Further to that, the All Star Band allows all of the young musicians to hear some of Melbourne’s best professional musicians. This year we were delighted to have Carey singing teacher Mark Dickinson perform with the All Star Band. He really did sing up a storm and was definitely a crowd favourite.
Each year at Jazz in the Quad, we will be presenting the Nick Mulder Jazz Bursary, which will awarded to a student in the program who demonstrates a keen interest and engagement in jazz. This year it was awarded to Year 10 saxophone student Isaac Cecil.
Auditions for 2025 ensembles are underway, with rehearsals for those new groups starting next week. The students have been presenting really well and we always look forward to the first rehearsals with the new groups. This will culminate in a Twilight Concert on Wednesday 13 November.
Jazz in the Quad 2024
We wish all of our departing Year 12 Performing Arts students all the very best for their exams and whatever the future holds for them. Their contribution to the program over the years has been greatly appreciated, and we hope that they take fond memories with them of their time in ensembles and shows at Carey.
