Over the last two weeks, we have enjoyed, acknowledged and celebrated the journey of our graduating class of 2025. Their contribution to our school has been enormous, especially considering some tumultuous times, with COVID-19 interrupting their Year 7. We have been so proud of the ways in which they have risen to the challenges before them and embraced the opportunity to strive for excellence across their learning program. We wish them all well as they now embark upon swotvac and examinations to follow.

At the start of term, we launched to staff the new School Management System we are calling Carey Central. As a staff, we will be learning the new system and using it to record important information about our students’ learning on a platform that promises to be much more efficient and user friendly. We look forward to opening up the parent functions during the back half of Term 1, 2026.

Last week we were delighted to host the annual Jazz in the Quad, a magnificent night showcasing the musical talents of both students and staff, as well as the annual Art and Design Exhibition which opened on Friday night. Clearly the creative talent in our community is enormous, and it is wonderful to have these showcases at the end of the year to be able to celebrate so publicly all the work that has been invested in by staff and students alike.

Term 4 presents many opportunities for our students to display what they know and can do as a result of their learning. I encourage you all to take part in as many of these celebrations of learning as you can and to express interest in the culmination of projects, tests and exams. Taking an interest in and celebrating the effort invested creates a positive and supportive learning environment. Encouraging each student to do their best work in every part of the program is a collaborative partnership between families and the School.

Over the recent break I attended the biannual Heads of Independent Schools Conference which this year focussed on the developments in brain science and neuroplasticity. We were all reminded just how important a calm, safe and supportive environment is for learning and, alongside this, the quality of the relationship between the teacher and student. We look forward to continuing our focus in this area to support the best possible academic outcomes from each of the children in our care.

I hope to see many of you in the weeks ahead as we celebrate our students’ achievements across the breadth of our programs.
