As Term 4 draws to a close, we reflect on an exciting finish to the 2025/26 Summer Sport season and look forward to what promises to be a dynamic Term 1 in 2026.

Year 7 and 8 summer sport training block

This November, we trialled a four-week non-compulsory training block for our Year 7 and 8 students – a first for our program. The purpose was simple yet powerful:

  • Reconnect students with their chosen Summer Sport.
  • Build confidence and skills ahead of Term 1, 2026.
  • Foster engagement and team spirit early.

The energy, enthusiasm, and connection displayed by students and staff was outstanding. This initiative has laid a strong foundation for next year’s full term 1 Summer Sport season.

APS Summer Sport – First Teams

Our First Boys and Girls APS Summer Sport Teams have been in action, delivering pleasing results both individually and collectively. These performances reflect the hard work and commitment of our athletes and coaches. With this momentum, there’s plenty to look forward to in Term 1 next year, as we aim to build on these successes.

It is also worth noting that we have had two inaugural First Teams kickstart their campaigns this Summer Sport season – Girls First XI APS/AGSSV Cricket Team and Boys First Touch Football Team.

Road Cycling as an activity option in the summer season has commenced for the first time, with an enthusiastic group of students training on spin bikes and at the Blackburn Cycling Club. Some of the students concluded the Term 4 season with a race at the Hawthorn Criterium. There’s a lot to look forward to in 2026.

Healthy habits over the Christmas break

As we head into the festive season, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential for all students. Key pillars include:

  • physical activity: regular movement helps maintain fitness and prevent injury when returning to sport
  • fuelling the body: balanced meals rich in protein, complex carbs and hydration support recovery and energy
  • sleep: adequate rest is critical for mental and physical wellbeing.

Research supports these habits:

  • Studies show that consistent physical activity during breaks reduces performance decline and injury risk when returning to structured training.
  • Sleep quality is directly linked to reaction time, decision-making and overall athletic performance.
  • Proper nutritional fuel ensures muscle recovery and sustained energy, especially during growth phases in adolescents.

Encouraging students to stay active, eat well and rest will set them up for success in the new year.

Term 1, 2026 will see the full summer sport season in action, with teams ready to compete at their best. Thank you to all students, staff and families for your commitment and support throughout Term 4. We can’t wait to see everyone back, refreshed and ready for an exciting year of Carey Sport and Activities.
