With blood-red poppies dominating the MGH screen, the Senior School Anzac Service was steeped in respect, reflection and hope. Our Year 12 soloist Bridie’s performance of the song ‘1915’ was a poignant reminder of the contradictions of war: the camaraderie of shared singing in a cease fire, the devastation when the guns start again. The Wind Symphony brought us ‘Abide With Me’ with Year 12 trumpeter Raf interlacing ‘The Last Post’ throughout. A minute’s silence followed, before Year 12 student Dominic performed ‘Reveille’ on drums. This service was a reflection of the power of music in creating occasion and heightening the emotion of what is a very important day in the history of Australia and New Zealand.

And so with that, Term 2 is under way and the Performing Arts Department have many things happening. The Stage and Big Bands leave for Generations in Jazz this weekend and we are excited to hear them perform at this wonderful event. Little Mermaid rehearsals are well underway, and ensembles are preparing for Autumn Music Camp, Autumn Bands Concert, a choir trip to Ballarat, a combined concert with Eltham High School, Winter String Concert and Whole School Guitar Concert. There are also IB and VCE recitals and department recitals to share with the community.

As always, we look forward to presenting these performance, and sharing them with our Performing Arts community.

The Big Sing

The Carey Theatre Association is hosting a singalong event on Monday 5 May at 6.00pm in the IWA. Everyone associated with Carey theatre, especially those who have been humming quietly in the background but are secretly longing to have a big sing, is encouraged to come along!

Tickets are $45 ($35 concession), which includes dinner and a drink on arrival, and all proceeds will be donated to the Carey Performing Arts Fund, which exclusively supports Performing-Arts-related activities at Carey, including musical productions and needs-based bursaries.

This event is for parents, staff and over-18 community members only. Book your ticket here.
