Both Middle and Senior School Eco-Warriors this year are putting all their efforts into supporting the Wildlife Garden program. Middle School Eco-Warriors are currently working with our Acting Manager – Property and Facilities, Regan Davis, to plan the next phase in the development of the program which we hope will include locally-sourced rocks with ponds for frogs and freshwater turtles and maybe a water feature. They are also working on an education program to raise awareness of the diverse range of native species endemic to our area. Senior School Eco-Warriors are backing up our Middle School team with a fabulous fundraising effort. The barbeque fundraiser at Bulleen for Senior School House Sports Day raised more than $500 and students are in the process of launching a campaign to promote recycling of plastic bottles through the Victorian Government Container Deposit Scheme. Our participation in the Container Deposit Scheme will also help to save plastic from entering our waterways although, ultimately, we would really like to make Carey a plastic-free zone.
Thank you to all our supporters at Carey, and if you would like to donate to the program or have expertise you would like to share, please do let me know. We would love to have you involved. We are also hoping to attract more students. This is a great way to help make the world a better place. For IB students, it is also a great opportunity to earn CAS hours for Service.
