It is wonderful to see all the students and staff returning to school and the library again buzzing with books being borrowed, students with their heads down studying and classes resuming their physical resource-based learning.

A new opportunity has opened up for our avid readers. The Children’s Book Council of Australia have a new program, Shortlist Shadow Judging. We have recently invited students to join one of two groups of Shadow Judges for two categories of shortlisted books, Younger Readers and Older Readers. Students involved in the program are going to read the six shortlisted books in their category, write notes about their reading to share with other judges at Carey and then submit a creative response which the students choose themselves. The creative element of this program is an exciting addition to the judging that has taken place when students have been involved in the Inky Judging program which is unfortunately not running this year.

It is not too late to join either of these two groups of Shadow Judges if you know students who are keen. See Ms Moran if you are interested.

The new Carey library Instagram is also getting more and more followers. Following @carey.library on Instagram is great for keeping up with the latest new books as well as reading trends like reading LGBTIQ+ books for Pride month and understanding more about Black Lives Matter by immersing yourself in good books about it. There’s also fun facts and heaps of great content every week. Thanks to Ms Kilkelly for making this happen and creating such wonderful posts.
