Our students will always be at the heart of everything we do at Carey. Our five strategic priorities identify the core of that commitment and guide the School’s direction.

Student Centred Learning

Student centred learning is a philosophy that requires each student to be an active, responsible participant in his or her own learning. The approach focusses on each student’s individual needs, interests and learning styles with the teacher as guide, mentor and facilitator. Far from being passive collectors of information, Carey students are offered flexible pathways to achieve their goals and develop clear strategies to achieve them. We expect our students to think, problem-solve, reflect and respond to the meaningful feedback they receive.

Wellbeing and Positive Education

At Carey, we have always believed that it is important to help young people develop the life-skills that will help them to thrive beyond the school environment. Our Wellbeing and Positive Education program fosters positive emotions and resilience, genuine engagement and a sense of meaning and accomplishment.

Quality Staff

Carey staff members are expected to be leaders in their field. We encourage collaboration – both with other Carey staff members and with others in the wider educational and professional communities – and offer our staff the opportunities, professional development and resources they need to be the best they can be.

Sustainable Operations

For us, sustainability means promoting and practising social, environmental and financial integrity. Socially we are committed to nurturing a culture of community engagement, social justice and philanthropy. Environmentally we are committed to ensuring that we use resources wisely and that our school spaces are attractive and sustainable places to work, learn and play. Sound governance and sustainable business plans are also central to Carey’s future.

Inspiring Facilities and Resources

We believe in providing an environment in which our students will thrive in all aspects of their education and personal development. We have developed a long-term facilities masterplan to provide the atmosphere, resources and physical spaces to inspire our students and staff.
