From the Head of Junior School

The end of Term 3 has arrived and I would like to give my thanks to the staff for their commitment and hard work. I would particularly like to acknowledge Bronwyn Vary, Judy Battle and Shane Kamsner for replacing Angela Johnston in Learning Development. Three staff members combining to fill her role says a lot about the complexity of her position!
I wish Tim Barker all the best for his Long Service Leave and travels overseas next term. Tim is being replaced by Sally Davis, who is an experienced teacher with a passion for choral singing.
Sarah McLean has tendered her resignation effective from the end of the year. Sarah has made a valuable contribution to the Junior School, having taught both Upper and Lower Primary in Library and PE. We wish Sarah all the best in the next stage of her career.

The students will be excited to share their Portfolios with you over the holidays as they will be sent home on the last day of term. The Year 5D students brought theirs home on Monday of this week as they headed off to their Outdoor Education camp at Toonallook on Tuesday. The students in Years 5 and 6 will show parents a mixture of their learning on their Blogs, on their iPad and in hard copy assessments and work samples in folders.
The Prep to Year 4 students’ learning is in their black Portfolio folders. A suggestion is for you to sit with your child, go through their work samples and ask them to talk about their learning, highlights and goals moving forward. We ask that the Portfolios come back to school, fully intact with all of the work, as you found it, on the first day of Term 4.

When you receive this newsletter, Ben Dooley, Deputy Head – Student Welfare, Sharon Rong, LOTE Co-ordinator and I will have departed for China. The purpose of the trip is to plan a cultural experience for Year 5 and 6 students that will be provided as an opt-in trip every two years in a part of the September holidays. We look forward to conducting an information session next term for students and parents and sharing this exciting initiative for our students to get first-hand experience of the country of our LOTE offering.

I wish all students and their families a safe and happy holiday. I look forward to seeing them on day one of Term 4, Monday 8 October, in full summer uniform and hat for playtimes.
