As part of the recent Middle School online Olympic Festival, there was a live cross to Carey alumni Hana Basic (2013) and Jess Hansen (2013) who were both in Darwin completing a 14-day isolation following their Olympic experience. When asked to nominate the best performance of the games, both were quick to highlight Australians who they admired; for Jess it was her friend Emma McKeon, and for Hana it was the decathlete Cedric Dubler who selflessly helped fellow Australian Ash Moloney to a bronze medal. It was evident that the foundation of support for teammates was critical in the strange setting created by COVID-19.
At Carey, this foundation of support from teammates has many access points. At the Junior School, the initial contact is the class teacher, with a House system that provides a further means of connection. The primary class teacher provides that daily guidance enabling students to seamlessly transition into Year 7. Year 7 students will notice some subtle changes. They will have a class teacher in two subjects, with the House system now becoming their daily point of connection. Within the Secondary school each student belongs to a large School Section, a more intimate House group, and within the House group there is a further breakdown into a mentor group of 16 students. There are many layers that encourage various pathways to connection and, when required, close support. The emphasis on student wellbeing is further complemented across the whole School through the work of the Student Development team, including a team of Psychologists, School Guidance Co-ordinators, Nurses and Professional Support Staff.
Carey is a large school that remains mindful of the need to provide the opportunity for each individual to find their teammate.

Every year, the ISV conducts an important Parent Satisfaction Survey to gather valuable insights from you to tell us and the ISV about the quality of the educational experience for your child at Carey. We want to hear about experiences across the whole educational journey and for us to reflect on how things are going beyond COVID.

We ask that you complete the survey for your eldest child at Carey. The survey is completely anonymous. Carey receives only aggregate results.

Uniform Update
In response to recent requests for updates to some uniform items, we will commence a review of the current uniform in September with the aim to establish any enhancements that are required. Community Engagement will be sending out further information regarding this project next week, followed by an online uniform survey and opportunity to be involved in focus groups during October.
