New Metrics for Success

We are preparing our young people for a very different world than the one we grew up in, so, more than ever before, we must be thinking ahead. I am excited to share that Carey is one of 37 schools Australia-wide, including 19 in Victoria, to have joined an educational research project that aims to expand assessment for Australian school students beyond NAPLAN and the ATAR. This innovative project, entitled New Metrics for Success, is a collaborative research venture between the University of Melbourne and these selected forward-thinking schools, and will expand on the on the work we have already been doing through the development of our Positive Learner Attributes that demonstrate a broader expression of student success.

It is critical now to lead the direction of learning and appropriate assessments to better reflect the social, economic, environmental and technological circumstances our students will encounter in the future. Learning ambitions for students are changing and we must also adapt to ensure we offer the broader, deeper learning that is required for young people to thrive, at school and beyond.

The New Metrics for Success project is a two-year project that provides an opportunity for innovative school leaders to partner with international researchers and academic experts to reimagine and influence schooling in Australia and support schools rethinking learning, program design, pedagogy, assessment, and pathways for students.

I am confident that the incredible work over many years in developing the Positive Learner Attributes will be the perfect platform to fully demonstrate student growth, character strengths and competencies, as well as to show important information on how they contribute positively to the world.
