International and Interstate Tours

Carey offers students the opportunity to engage in interstate and overseas tours as part of learning beyond the classroom.

Curriculum Tours

Many of these tours directly complement the curriculum, including the French, Indonesian and Chinese tours for Languages students; the Art tour to central Australia; and the annual Year 12 Three Pillars Tour to Darwin, where students work with staff on tasks in their subject areas, engage in many different outdoor activities and complete community service with an Indigenous community.

Robinson River

Robinson River is a small and remote Indigenous community in the Northern Territory. In recent years, Carey has established a special relationship with the people of Robinson River and now runs an annual program where a small number of Year 6 and Year 9 students have the opportunity to visit the community. The relationship continues with a return trip, usually at the end of Term 3, by a group of students and two staff from the Robinson River School.

World Challenge

Other overseas tours encourage students to step out of their comfort zones by living and working in a developing country by completing a World Challenge Expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. During their time away, students must acclimatise to the different culture; complete an expedition, in either the Amazon basin or the mountains; and complete an extended community service project. World Challenge tours also require students to raise and manage the cost of their trip themselves, rather than relying on their families to pay for their experience.

Our activities program also offers a number of interstate and overseas sport tours that offer students an opportunity to broaden their experience and perspective, involving a balance of training sessions, cultural awareness, matches and some sightseeing. Recent trips include New Zealand (netball), Spain (soccer), Sri Lanka (cricket) and USA (basketball). Music tours to the UK and Europe also complement the Performing Arts disciplines at Carey.
