I hope you are all well. Despite our current lockdown, in our online chapel reflection videos this week, Year 7 and 8 students have looked at doing good even in difficult places. Year 9 students reflected on the C-change theme and upcoming Safe Party Forum focus, Choice. They had the opportunity to listen to Jack Joslin, Acting Leader of Learning – Health and Physical Education and Head of Football, share his experiences with former student James Macready-Bryan. We also discussed the efforts of English soccer player Marcus Rashford to help ensure young people across the United Kingdom were fed during the 2020 lockdown. These reflections can be found on Canvas in the students’ House Spirituality folders.
Looking ahead to the opening ceremony for the Tokyo Olympics, I hope you are able to gather with others in your household as we do for a host-country-inspired meal as the athletes enter the arena. For my family, that will mean lots of sushi and mixed tempura. Being the Staff Member in Charge of Table Tennis at Carey, I am particularly looking forward to hopefully watching the entire Table Tennis tournament, especially as Jian Fang Lay will be representing Australia at her sixth Olympic Games. It will be great to see how Australian players progress from 24 July through to 6 August. CEO of Table Tennis Australia, Scott Houston, rightly makes the point that Jian is one of the best Table Tennis players Australia has ever produced and is an Australian sporting treasure.

God infinitely holy and loving, you have a plan for the world, a plan for our lives, and some daily work for us to do. Help us to follow the example of your son and may the Holy Spirit guide is in ways to love you with all our heart, and soul, and mind, and strength; and to care for our neighbour. Help us to be people who work to remove barriers and anything else that breaks the spirit of fellowship. Amen.
