CLI Library News: 2021 Carey Inky Shortlist Announced

The 2021 Carey Inky Shortlist was announced at the beginning of the Term 3/4 break. The shortlist consists of five Australian titles and five international titles. These titles were selected by the wonderfully insightful and passionate group of Carey Inky Judges – originally there were 30 titles, which were whittled down in Term 2 to a longlist of 20.

The shortlist this year represents a wide range of interesting and relevant topics and genres, and there are titles suited to all ages of Middle and Senior School readers. A noticeable theme throughout is that of diverse representation, particularly Own Voices (when the author is writing about a minority group, informed by their own lived experience).

All the shortlisted titles are available as physical books (through our current Click & Collect service) and as eBooks (through Overdrive). To find out more about the Inky Awards and the shortlisted titles, and to access the catalogue and eBook links, click here.

Look out for the call for Expressions of Interest to participate as a Carey Inky Judge in 2022! Participating as a Judge is a great opportunity to:

  • challenge yourself to read 20 books in about 6 to 7 months, across genres you may not normally read
  • meet and chat with other readers
  • develop your critical assessment skills in judging the books
  • develop your conversational skills in talking intelligently about the books
  • have a say in which books will remain popular with Carey students in following years.
