Students and staff can now access the CLI Library easily from Canvas. See the blue left-hand-side menu for the House icon to find the landing page for all three Carey Libraries. There is a wealth of e-resources, research guides and support available through the homepage 24 hours a day. During school hours, a well-trained team of professionals are ready to provide support to students and staff as they undertake their research and learning.
It has been wonderful to start off the year with the influx of new Year 7 students exploring the library and settling into the Wide Reading Program with their English teachers. Getting the right book to keep your interest can be difficult at times, but the library staff work enthusiastically with students to find those great books that are easy to pick up as part of a daily routine of reading at home. Year 7s have joined older students in games of chess and other board games at recess and lunchtime on the upper levels of the library while students looking for quiet spaces to study are enjoying the basement level of the library.
Exciting new additions to the CLI Library
We have welcomed two new to library technicians to the CLI Library this year with Anne Lambert and Max Roemmelt joining the team. We farewelled the very popular and talented librarian Belinda Hopper in November 2021 after 13 years of enthusiastic service to the library and Carey. Anne and Max are both enthusiastic readers and Anne’s previous experience in primary school libraries has meant she has easily moved into supporting some of the Year 7 classes with their wide reading. Max has a design background and the new displays he has created have already made a big impact.
Bibliophilia Awards
Finally, we have a brand-new student group which judges the best books form 2021. Formerly known as the Inky Judging, the students have come up with the new name ‘Bibliophilia’, and the winning books will win the Bibliophilia Awards.The students involved have firstly voted on an extended longlist of great books from 2021 to create a list of five Australian and five International books to read and review. Quite a big group of more than 20 students from across Middle and Senior School will meet regularly to discuss their reading of the books, connecting with other avid readers exploring what writers are publishing for young adults. Many thanks to librarian Linden Carroll for all the work she has put into setting up this new group with a wonderful band of students who love their reading and a great list of fascinating books to discover.It is not too late for keen readers to join: just email Linden Carroll to express your interest.
