As well as heralding the change of seasons into autumn, 1 March is also known as St David’s Day. St David was the patron saint of Wales and he is most well-known for his advice, ‘Do the little things in life.’

What a great message! Imagine how different our world would be if everybody went out of their way to show love and care in small, everyday ways. We may think that each kind or helpful act is too small to be important or to make a difference. But our small, loving, kind words or actions mount up and build into something bigger. More often than not, our small acts of kindness and generosity become contagious, and the recipients are more likely to return their small acts of care and consideration.

Our gestures don’t need to be huge financial giving – but small acts of giving from our hearts. In Year 1 and 2 CARE, we heard about the Feeding of the 5000. One aspect of this story we focussed on is how Jesus could not perform this miracle without one little boy being prepared to share his lunch. And look how that turned out! The children have been challenged to think about what they have that they can share with others to be a part of Jesus’s miracles today – their time, their friendship, their care, their homes, their toys, their kind words, their manners, their gratitude. Let us all ‘Do the little things in life’ to make a big difference.

‘Not all of us can do great things. But we can all do small things with great love.’ – Mother Theresa
