We will help our community to flourish.
‘Positive education is … education for both traditional skills and for happiness. The high prevalence worldwide of depression among young people, the small rise in life satisfaction, and the synergy between learning and positive emotion all argue that the skills for happiness should be taught in school. There is substantial evidence from well controlled studies that skills that increase resilience, positive emotion, engagement and meaning can be taught to school children.’

Wellbeing and Positive Education
Care at Carey has long underpinned our School’s educational philosophy. Wellbeing programs are vital in supporting young people to develop life skills to assist them within and beyond the school environment.
Positive Education is a recently developed but now widely accepted branch of psychology which promotes individual resilience in developing traditional skills and happiness.
We are developing a whole school approach to Positive Education which focusses attention on each individual student’s positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and accomplishment. These critically important life skills and attributes can be learnt, and so they can also be taught. They enable increased creativity and thinking skills in students and staff and have a significant and beneficial impact in reducing the incidence of depression, anxiety, insecurity and other stresses. Positive Education uses techniques that emphasise individual strengths, personal motivation and resilience in the promotion of learning and the wellbeing of each student.
When Carey’s students learn how to get the best from themselves, they will be able to give their best to others – their families, friends, work colleagues and the communities they serve.
Positive Education is a commitment at Carey and forms one of our key Strategic Directions Towards Our Centenary 2023.
