A warm welcome to students, staff and parents to the virtual Term 2. My sincere thanks is extended to Mr Jack Joslin who stepped into the Head of Sport role admirably while I enjoyed a period of long service leave throughout Term 1. Furthermore, I would like to extend my gratitude to all students, coaches, staff and parents for their incredible goodwill in relation to Carey Sport throughout Term 1 amidst the remarkable events of the coronavirus crisis.
Usually at this time of the year we would be immersed in the start of the Winter APS season and all the excitement that goes with that. Alas, we are playing more of a waiting game at present in the hope that our Carey winter teams will experience some form of competition at some point this year. How the season looks is anyone’s guess and obviously Carey will be guided by Government and Health Authority advice. That said, APS Delegates and Heads have met and have discussed several draft scenarios which include:
- Resumption of all APS winter sport for all Years 7 to 12 students in Week 1, Term 3 with the possibility of playing a full winter season over the course of the whole Term 3 period.
- Resumption of all APS winter sport for all Years 7 to 12 students from Week 3, Term 3 with approximately six Saturday rounds to complete the term (First teams would potentially play mid-week catch up rounds to complete their respective premiership seasons).
- Resumption of the APS winter season at an agreed time for all Years 7 to 12 students with a modified formula (e.g. round robin/gala days, but no First team premierships)
- Winter APS season cancelled completely in Term 3 with non-compulsory spring APS and/or internal Carey activities planned
Please note that the above scenarios are very much DRAFT in nature and subject to further changes. We therefore ask for your patience at this point and be assured that when updates and decisions are made, the community will be advised accordingly.
Carey Sport on Canvas
With the likelihood of no organised sport at Carey throughout Term 2, we are pleased to announce some fantastic initiatives to keep us all connected to our winter sports and activities. The Carey Sport Canvas pages will be up and running next week for all students in Years 7 to 12 to access. Similar to the academic online program, students can logon to their Carey Sport page and access drills, conditioning activities and challenges for their chosen sport or activity. Students will be encouraged to partake in at least one training session per week and a Saturday session so as to mirror a normal winter season.
Carey Community Challenge
It’s not too late to enter the CCC! Details are on student Canvas pages and you can read more about it here. This is a brilliant whole-school initiative to help us all connect, have fun and stay active.
My warmest wishes are extended to all families during these uncertain times. From my early conversations with the Carey community it appears that so many of us are remaining active, positive and as connected as possible. To you all I say well done and best wishes.
