This is the 15th year that third year students from Kansai University, in Osaka Japan, have visited Junior School Kew. Under the leadership of Professor Haruo Kurokami, Department of Infomatics, the Kansai students come to Carey to observe how to implement thinking routines into classroom programs, compare and contrast the Japanese education system with Carey practices, and present a science lesson related to our Junior School science curriculum.
Preparation begins in April. Kansai students study and review the Carey curriculum to develop their understanding of key concepts. Then comes the challenge of developing a lesson that includes key concepts and a connection to Japanese culture! With assistance from S’Carter, lessons are refined and revised. Many weeks are spent working on the lessons and perfecting the English delivery!
